“Dom, you are never going to believe what happened.” I burst into her office, stopping short when I saw she wasn’t alone. “Heyyy AJ.” I greeted. They’d been huddled up at her infamous conference table. It was super clear why my sister had been harboring a crush on him for however many years. I’d had a baby one ever since he took me out for ice cream when I was like 9, but nothing like hers. As far as I was concerned, he was hers.

“What’s going on, Tumeric?” He greeted with a grin, just tall and fine.

“Whatever.” I said with an eyeroll. “Kaedy let me right in, Dom. Didn’t realize you were in a meeting.”

“Go ahead and dry snitch on her assistant.”

“Shut up.”

“It’s fine, Sage.” She said softly. Dom was super flustered. I could tell by the crimson tinge around her neck. She was always flustered when AJ was around. A whole, entire, grown ass woman who couldn’t function when she was around her crush. I didn’t understand it. Especially, now that they had to work together. How did they get anything done when all she could do was sit there and sweat?

AJ’s phone went off in his pocket, causing him to pull it out to check the caller Id, he told us to take all the time we needed as he left the office to answer it.

“He is still fine.” I observed, shaking my head like it was a shame, as I came around to sit next to Dom. “At some point, you need to hit puberty and step to him. My nieces and nephews would be so cute.”

“Shut up, Sage.” Her voice was breathy as she downed the entire glass of water that was in front of her.

“I’m just saying.” I shrugged, as I looked her over, admiring the all-white slacks and blouse she wore, “You’re ridiculous.”

“You don’t think I know that by now? This shit is not natural. I mean… I have this crushing anxiety that chokes the hell out of me whenever he is around. I’m too old for this.” Her hands came up to run through her hair, but stopped short, which didn’t surprise me. That would have messed up her perfectly slicked back ponytail. And Dom didn’t do mess ups.

“Maybe you should go see a hypnotist?”

“Sage…”

“I’m saying.” I shrugged. “Just try it. What’s the worst that could happen? You could psyche yourself out of liking him altogether and move on with your life and find you a man. You’re never going to approach him. Sucker.”

“Did you come here for a reason?” She asked through clenched teeth.

“I did. You’ll never guess who I picked up from the airport yesterday?”

“I don’t have time to guess, Sagey.” Her attention and fingers were back on her laptop. Poor thing would probably have arthritis at some point. Sheesh.

“Jesus, Dom.” I rolled my eyes. “Anyway, I had to pick up Roy’s best friend–”

“Why?” She questioned, she typed.

“Because they forgot he was coming in and had to meet with the caterer.”

“He couldn’t take an Uber?” Yup, she was definitely my sister.
